3. Selection Guidelines

New Beckenham CC Selection Guidelines - April 2024

• All discussions at the Committee to be transparent.

• Selection priority
- fully paid up members of New Beckenham CC Senior Section
- combination of availability / ability / attendance at training
- player development

• The strongest side is to be selected. All captains to work towards fielding a balanced side.

• Players promoted or dropped are to be contacted by the captain dropping them or by the captain promoting them to explain the reasons and to advise them what their role will be in the team. This needs to be done by 10pm each Monday.

• Players promoted on form (not just to cover unavailability) to be selected for 3 matches.

• Where a player is promoted as a “fill in” e.g batting at no. 8, the player filling this role will be rotated unless that player is happy to fill the role regularly.

• No player to be promoted or dropped more than one side without the specific agreement of the Chairman of the Selection Committee.

• Players who have been unavailable for unavoidable reasons can still be selected for the team their ability dictates as long as they are not replacing a player that has been playing regularly.

• All players to play for the side for which they have been selected. Refusal to do so may be considered a disciplinary offence.

Players' Responsibility

• To complete a Direct Debit mandate or equivalent or make a payment in respect of their subscription before 31st May

• To give their availability by 5 pm on a Monday via Pitchero

• To advise their captain as soon as possible if there is any doubt as to whether they will be able to play

• To play for the side for which they have been selected.

• To give feedback to the captain if appropriate.

• Where issues are not resolved to speak with the Chairman of the Selection Committee.
